Note on the Ratings

We're down to the nitty-gritty. One team will lose and one team will be the champion. But the fact that they both made it to this deciding game says they both had exceptional years. All that's left is the blast of a lifetime. So enjoy it whether you score more points or not. As I suspected, in the Major where the top team went out in the first round, a remaining team has passed them. In the end, both championship teams may claim the top two spots. It's party time.

Notes on Playoffs

The top eight played last week in both the Bantam and Minor. That wasn't so in the Major where the number one team lost its very first playoff game. Joshua 3 is still sitting there after a great season (except that playoff game) but will likely be passed up by one or two teams that did win playoff games. There were two upsets this week. The first one wasn't really an upset as you have to put one team ahead of the other in that Whitney and Crowley Bantam had the same rating. And a great game it was with Crowley winning 42-34. In the other upset Crowley Major beat number two Midlothian 1 by a score of 22-8, and Crowley Minor also won their game 26-0, so it was a great week for Crowley. We're down to twelve teams now and three of these will be champions. Every team will have a great season to remember.

Great games! Six upsets, I think. Much better than two. I had my Excel spreadsheet go screwy so I had to download an alternative on the road. Not only that but I forgot to take my notebook that had all the scores. All is under control now. The games to watch are Bantam #4 Whitney vs #5 Crowley and Major #3 Midlothian 4 vs #4 Burleson 2.

Ratings Notes

Okay, the teams are all lined up and we're ready to see which is the last team standing. Here is the key to the playoffs. Score more points than all your opponents and you'll be the champion. If you can't be the champion, the second best thing is to upset somebody. I tracked the last three weeks for upsets. Every week there were only two in twenty-four games. But teams change when they get into the playoffs. There will be lots of upsets, I hope. If it weren't for upsets, what would be the point of watching? Last week there was a great matchup in the Major between #10 Burleson 1 and #11 Whitney. Whitney barely got an upset by a score of 18-16. Congratulations. That's a game I would like to see. That's nothing, though, compared to #14 Granbury 2 Minor's walloping of #13 Burleson 1 by a score of 30-0. Where have these guys been hiding? But that's all in the past, now. If you are in the playoffs, your only goal is to beat everybody you play. If you don't, you still had a great time.

Notes on Week Eight

Two more upsets this week. That's my favorite kind of games. Cleburne Minor 3 edged out Burleson 2 18-14. Great game. But what happened to Crowley Major? Wow, good job, Burleson 2. 30-6. And how about that Bantam game, Midlothian 1 over Whitney, 68-44. No boredom there. The upset in the Majors was the highlight this week as most of that division's games apparently matched up teams from the top half against teams from the bottom half. Stay tuned, though. In a couple of weeks it will get even better.

Notes on Week Seven

Nothing unusual in the Minors. In the Majors Joshua 1 pulled off one of the two upsets this week against Granbury 1. Good job. Upsets are what I like. I always cheer for the underdog. The big shocker this week was a 34-0 trouncing of Burleson by Granbury 1. What happened there? Keep it going, Granbury 1.There are two weeks left to pull off those upsets. After that are the playoffs in which the most upsets happen. I suppose that means the teams have figured out it's time to get serious. After all, one strike and you're out.

Explanation of Week Two Ratings

After two weeks games, two teams in each set of ratings are still out of place. After one week each team's rating is affected by one other team. After two weeks it is affected by three teams. After three as many as seven teams. The ratings are reliable by week five when all the teams have made a sufficient number of connections to all the other teams. From those connections we can estimate how any team stacks up against any other team. Before that, it is questionable. Also, each week is more important than the previous week because the teams are getting more experience and being refined as they learned to work together as a unit After week nine most teams don't resemble their week one selves. A losing team can become a winning team as we go through the season. So the first four weeks' ratings are not very meaningful because of those two big factors - change and connections.

Sunday August 21st BVFA Final Player Certification & Weigh-In

Sunday, August 21st, 2016 is the final opportunity for players to be certified and weighed for the 2016 season. Failure to be certified will result in the player being dropped from the team.

IMPORTANT: Make sure to bring the Coaches Book with players because without it they cannot be certified.

Dick's Sporting Goods BVFA Shop Day Tomorrow July 30th.

Just wanted to send out another reminder regarding the Dick's Sporting Goods Shop Day that is scheduled for tomorrow, July 30th at the Arlington Store. Rob visited the store yesterday and did a walk through to view all the inventory they had available for the Shop Day. They have expanded their inventory on all football equipment beyond what we have seen in the past -- helmets, shoulder pads, cleats, footballs, practice gear, gloves, assorted training equipment, etc. 

They have made a considerable effort to make sure that any type of equipment needed, will be available Saturday. so be sure to let everyone know so they can take advantage of the discounts and savings.

 Also, if something is out of stock at the store, just ask a store employee to order it and have it shipped to you. You will still be able to take advantage of the discount.

Due to the amount of rain our area received this week, the City of Cleburne has closed the Sports Complex to all sports this weekend. Therefore, all BVFA 7on7 games for this Saturday, April 23rd, are cancelled. We will make these games up next weekend in a doubleheader format. Schedules will be revised and sent out the first of next week.
